Article: Funding for ER care of non-documented immigrants Deadline: March 15, 2010 A Medicare program that set aside $250 million annually to reimburse hospitals for emergency care of non-documented immigrants expired in October. Catholic Health World would like to talk to ministry executives about how the expiration of Section 1011 of the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003 is impacted their hospitals. If you have data or administrators willing to be interviewed on this subject, please contact editor Judy VandeWater. Please put "Immigrants in the ER" in your e-mail's subject line.

Article: Good neighbors Deadline: March 15, 2010 Hospitals in residential areas often go to great to lengths to appease the neighbors, especially when they are planning to expand or in the midst of construction projects. Catholic Health World is prospecting for anecdotes about what hospitals have done in the name of keeping neighborly relations. Also, we'd like to talk to the executives who face the music at contentious planning and zoning meetings and work through the system to reach a happy compromise. Please contact editor Judy VandeWater with stories and sources. Please put "Good Neighbors" in your e-mail's subject line.

Article: ER violence policies Deadline: March 15, 2010 A study released in the summer by the Emergency Nurses Association found that more than half of ER nurses have been kicked, scratched, spit-on or otherwise assaulted on the job. Catholic Health World is interested in how ministry members lower the risk of workplace violence. Does your facility have procedures for deescalating angry confrontations or deflecting aggression? What about no-fault reporting of violent incidents? What type of training, prevention is offered? We'd like to share best practices in this area. Please contact editor Judy VandeWater with information and experts. Please put "ER Violence Policy" in your e-mail's subject line.
