GRANTS
ArchCare, the health system of the Archdiocese of New York, has received a $5.5 million grant from the New York State Department of Health that establishes ArchCare as a "Workforce Investment Organization." Using the grant, ArchCare will implement training programs to enhance long-term care workers' skills and to increase their job and advancement opportunities. The grant is part of a broader state health department program aimed at attracting, recruiting, retraining and retaining health care workers. A goal is to meet increasing demand for long-term care services in New York state.

The Mercy College of Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa, has received a four-year, $1.79 million grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The grant will fund Mercy College's new Community Advocacy Registered Nurse Education project. The CARE project will increase the number of nursing students and registered nurses trained and working to the full scope of their licenses in community-based primary care teams in Iowa.

Avera Health of Sioux Falls, S.D., has received a three-year, $750,000 grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration to combat substance abuse through the expansion of behavioral health services. The grant from the administration's Office for the Advancement of Telehealth will fund a Substance Abuse Treatment Telehealth Network. Care teams will use the network to screen patients and make referrals into treatment programs at participating Avera primary care sites.
