International Outreach Regional Meeting — Saint Louis University

Please join leaders, faculty, staff and students involved in international outreach for a one-day meeting sponsored by the Catholic Health Association of the United States (CHA) and the Saint Louis University College (SLU) of Public Health and Social Justice. This meeting is an opportunity for SLU faculty and students and CHA members and partner organization leaders from the St. Louis region to collectively discuss activities, practices, cautionary information and potential for collaboration related to international activities. This event will also facilitate raised awareness about CHA research in and resources/tools for appropriate short-term medical mission trips, medical surplus donations, as well as overall international outreach activities including disaster response.

This convening is free of charge to CHA members; Saint Louis University faculty, staff and students; Catholic diocesan and parish mission trip leaders as well as relevant partner-organization leaders from medical surplus recovery organizations and civic organizations in the Saint Louis region who conduct international programs. It is intended for those persons directly involved in international outreach activities and relevant university programs of study.

Objectives

After attending this meeting, participants will be able to:

  • Describe activities included under the umbrella of international outreach: disaster response, medical teams, immersion, surplus recovery, volunteers and some recommended practices for each.
  • Recognize opportunities for collaboration/partnership between NGOs such as Catholic health care and academic institutions.
  • Restate CHA research conducted on short-term medical mission trips and medical surplus recovery and resulting resources on assessment and practices for systems and hospitals.
  • Share information about Saint Louis University international activities conducted involving public health and student internships.
  • Recognize the international efforts of regionally-based Catholic health care institutions.
  • Use contacts made for further networking with leaders from NGO, health care leaders, Saint Louis University, Catholic diocese and others who attend.

This meeting is being held at SLU's Busch Student Center in the Saint Louis Room
There is no registration fee for this meeting; however, you will still need to register for the event so that we can plan for meals and program materials.
