August 1, 2016

CHRISTUS Health of Irving, Texas, has entered into a strategic partnership with the Colombian conglomerate Coomeva Cooperative Medica and has assumed partial ownership of four Coomeva companies. CHRISTUS and Coomeva Cooperative finalized the deal June 14.

Under the agreement, CHRISTUS has an equal ownership stake with Coomeva Cooperative in Sinergia, which includes a health care provider network, two wholly owned hospitals, two partially owned hospitals, a home care company and 88 ambulatory care facilities. Sinergia serves members of Coomeva's and other organizations' health insurance plans.

CHRISTUS acquired minority ownership of Coomeva EPS, a health insurance company that contracts with the Colombian government; and Coomeva Medicina Prepagada, which contracts with individuals and employers nationwide in Colombia to provide private health insurance.

CHRISTUS assumes partial ownership of Coomeva Servicios Administrativos, a Coomeva services and administration company providing human resources, group purchasing, payroll and other functions to Coomeva. Coomeva Servicios Administrativos includes an information management company providing software to all of Coomeva.

CHRISTUS did not provide financial details of these investments.

This is CHRISTUS' third partnership in Latin America. The U.S. Catholic health system also has health care partnerships in Mexico and Chile.
