Late last year, Langlade Hospital of Antigo, Wis., held a grand opening celebration for its $45 million, 23-bed replacement hospital that includes a birthing center, emergency department, intensive care unit, cancer center and dialysis unit.
Administrators said the original hospital, which opened in 1933 with 100 beds, was designed to facilitate inpatient care. Over time, Langlade has evolved like other health care providers and now delivers most care on an outpatient basis. Langlade leaders said the old building did not accommodate this shift, but the replacement facility that opened in May does. Plus, its energy efficient systems are less expensive to operate, according to information from Langlade.
Construction continues on a sports, fitness and recreation facility set to open on the campus in the spring.
