CHA member describes U.S. health care safety net at Vatican conference

Bonnie Phipps, president and chief executive of Ascension Health's Saint Agnes HealthCare in Baltimore, told an international audience of ministry health leaders about patient experiences with the health care safety net in the U.S. With her on the dais at the Vatican's 26th Pastoral Care in Health at the Service of Life conference were Msgr. Jean-Marie Mupendawatu, undersecretary of the Pontifical Council for Health Care Workers; Msgr. Zygmunt Zimowski, president of the Pontifical Council for Health Care Workers; and Msgr. Vitor Feytor Pinto, director of the National Commission for Pastoral Care in Health in Portugal. The November conference highlighted papers, testimonies and experiences based on the teachings of Pope John Paul II on the Christian value of suffering and the gospel of life.
