Sylvania Franciscan to acquire Texas hospital's operations

March 1, 2013

Sylvania Franciscan Health of Toledo, Ohio, is in talks to acquire the operations of the 32-bed Bellville General Hospital of Bellville, Texas.

Plans call for the hospital's board of directors to turn over operational control of the nonprofit facility to Sylvania Franciscan's St. Joseph Health System of Bryan, Texas, and for St. Joseph to lease the hospital's building and land from the Bellville Hospital District. The hospital will be renamed Bellville St. Joseph Health Center, and St. Joseph will run it as a Catholic facility under the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.

Bellville General initiated the negotiations. Administrators said at Catholic Health World's press time that they expected to finalize negotiations in the coming weeks.
