Goldsbury Foundation donates $20 million

May 15, 2013

The Children's Hospital of San Antonio Foundation has received a $20 million grant from the Goldsbury Foundation; it is the largest single gift in the 144-year history of the hospital's parent, the CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System.

The majority of the gift will go toward a $135 million construction project currently underway at the hospital and expected to be completed in late 2014 or early 2015, including a two-story lobby and entryway and to create new play areas and healing gardens for children. According to Veronica Laurel, communications director for the CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Foundation, $5 million of the gift will be held for future programs and services, which are still being developed.

Goldsbury Foundation, led by Angela and Kit Goldsbury of San Antonio, is a private family foundation that gives to proactively impact the lives of young people in the region, according to a statement from The Children's Hospital of San Antonio. Kit Goldsbury, currently the chief executive of Silver Ventures private equity firm, used to lead Pace Foods, known for its picante sauce.

Grants from the foundation previously helped to open the David Christopher Goldsbury Center for Children and Families, a multispecialty outpatient clinic; and the Center for Miracles, which is a "nationally renowned child abuse assessment program," according to a statement from the hospital.
