Rev. Ronald T. Kunkel, S.T.D. is the Executive Director of the Secretariat of Doctrine and Canonical Affairs of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. He has held this position since 2021.
He holds a bachelor of business administration from the University of Notre Dame, a bachelor of sacred theology from Rome’s Pontifical Gregorian University, a licentiate of sacred theology from the Pontifical Athenaeum of St. Anselm in Rome, and a doctorate of sacred theology from the University of Saint Mary of the Lake in Mundelein, Illinois. After his priestly ordination in 2000 Father Kunkel served parishes in Chicago. Beginning in 2005, he taught systematic and dogmatic theology at the University of St. Mary of the Lake.
He is a member of the Catholic Theological Society of America, the American Academy of Religion, the Society for Catholic Liturgy, and the Fellowship of Catholic Scholars, and is a contributor to the theological journal Chicago Studies.
