CHA's Community Benefit 101 program will continue to be offered as a virtual event in 2022! A highlight for 2022 will be the debut of the newest edition of CHA's nationally-recognized resource, A Guide for Planning and Reporting Community Benefit which will include updates on identifying and addressing health disparities and forming more authentic, effective community partnerships.

Community Benefit 101 provides new community benefit professionals and others who want to learn about community benefit with the foundational knowledge and tools needed to meet today's challenges. Through video presentations, live chat and commentary provided by community benefit leaders, CHA will provide the basics of community benefit, access to practical tools and resources, as well as timely public policy updates.

Objectives

The CB 101 virtual conference sessions will cover:

  • How community benefit demonstrates the organization's mission.
  • The latest news on tax exemption/community benefit issues.
  • Steps for planning and evaluating community benefit programs.
  • Policies needed to support community benefit programs.
  • What counts and doesn't count as community benefit.
  • Community benefit accounting principles.
  • How to tell the community benefit story.

New for 2022! Special Offer for Community Benefit Reporters
This year we added single day registration with special pricing for community benefit reporters who want to focus on what counts, accounting and how to tell the community benefit story. This session will include an extended discussion on what counts and is reported on the IRS 990 Schedule H and the IRS community benefit accounting guidelines, with plenty of time for questions. Whether you are new to reporting or need a refresher, you can register for just Day 2, October 26.

Who Should Attend

While it is designed for new community benefit professionals, the new virtual format now makes this meeting accessible to a wider audience, including:

  • Staff in mission, finance/tax, population health, strategic planning, diversity and inclusion, communications, government relations, and compliance who want to learn about the important relationship between their work and community benefit/community health.
  • Veteran community benefit staff who want a refresher course to update them on current practices, inspire future activities and connect with others in nonprofit health care doing this work.

Registration FAQs

What does the registration fee include?
Registration includes access to the conference in October, a special conference website and a hardcopy shipment that will include a copy of CHA’s A Guide for Planning and Reporting Community Benefit and additional materials.

Will the content be available after the event?
The event will be held in October, but you’ll have access to the conference website and session recordings well after the conference concludes.

As a reminder, A CHA website account is required to attend this virtual meeting and to access CHA's online learning portal. If you haven’t already done so, and to ensure that you can access the virtual meeting and all learning materials and resources, please take a moment now to create an online account.

Materials Mailing 

CHA will send each participant a Hospitality Box. To receive this package in advance of the program, your registration will need to have been received by Sept. 30. After Sept. 30, while you will still receive a package, we cannot guarantee it will get to you prior to the program. There will be an opportunity in the registration process to provide a shipping address to receive this package. If one is not provided, we will use the shipping address we have on file.


Cancellation Policy

  • A refund of the full registration fee will be given for cancellations received through Oct. 10, 2022.
  • A refund of 75% of the registration fee will be given for cancellations received after Oct. 10, 2022.

There is no additional charge for substitute registrants.

If complimentary advance materials have been sent prior to the cancellation, the refund amount will be reduced by the value of the materials.

If complimentary advance materials have been sent prior to the substitution, the substituted registrant will not be sent complimentary advance materials.

The right to change speakers or to modify program content is reserved by CHA. 

During the meeting, you may be recorded by CHA staff or its designated contractor. By your attendance or participation at the meeting, you agree that CHA may copy, record and/or distribute in any such form your participation and involvement in any meeting session, activity or event. No persons or organizations other than CHA or its designated contractor may audiotape any portion of the meeting without prior written permission of CHA. 

CHA reserves the right to decline registrations and refund fees.
