Artificial Intelligence in Catholic Health: Theological and Ethical Considerations

Jan. 14, 2025
1 to 1:45 p.m. ET

The Catholic Health Association is pleased to present "Artificial Intelligence in Catholic Health: Theological and Ethical Considerations," featuring Daniel J. Daly, Ph.D., Executive Director of the new Center for Theology and Ethics in Catholic Health.

Pope Francis has described artificial intelligence as "an exciting and fearsome tool." This webinar will highlight key theological and ethical values, virtues and principles essential for evaluating the adoption and use of AI in Catholic health. Dr. Daly's presentation will focus on what he sees as four key theological and ethical themes from Pope Francis's writings on AI:

  • A theological portrait of the human person,
  • A substantive account of human flourishing,
  • The importance of encounter and relationship in health care,
  • Concern for those who are poor and vulnerable.

Dr. Daly will illustrate these core concepts by drawing on Scripture, especially the healings of Jesus, and the theological tradition. The presentation will conclude with a question-and-answer segment.

This webinar is the first in a four-part series on AI ethics featuring the Center for Theology and Ethics in Catholic Health.
