Holy Redeemer expands board

April 15, 2011

For the first time in its history, the Board of Sponsors for Holy Redeemer Ministries has "co-missioned" members from outside the sisters' congregation. The sponsors' board assures the Catholic identity and mission of the sponsored works of the Sisters of the Holy Redeemer, including the Holy Redeemer Health System.

Based in Huntingdon Valley, Pa., the congregation sponsors Holy Redeemer Hospital & Medical Center in Meadowbrook, Pa., as well as hospice, home care, continuum of care facilities and a transitional housing ministry for mothers and children.

Newly co-missioned board members went through a two-year discernment process to determine whether the posts were a "life call" for them as individuals, said Jacqueline Young, a spokesperson for the ministry.

Fr. Joseph J. Driscoll, Daniel J. Gallagher and Filomela Marshall join three board members who are the leaders of the province: Sr. Anne Marie Haas, CSR, provincial superior; Sr. Martina Nicklaus, CSR, provincial vicar; and Sr. Barbara Deitrich, CSR, provincial councilor.

Fr. Driscoll directs the Center for Ministry Leadership for Bon Secours Health System of Marriottsville, Md. He previously worked in pastoral care for Holy Redeemer and is a past president and chief executive of the National Association of Catholic Chaplains. Marshall and Gallagher both have served on the board of directors of the Holy Redeemer Health System. Marshall is associate dean for undergraduate programs at the W. Cary Edwards School of Nursing at Thomas Edison State College in Trenton, N.J.
