Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., a member of the Senate Budget Committee and the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee, provided insight on the budget process at the 2013 Catholic Legislative Advocacy Conference in Washington, D.C. In his March 21 speech, Warner also called on ministry advocates to play a major role in educating individuals and families about attentive, patient-centered, end-of-life care.
Ministry advocates spent the afternoons of March 21 and 22 visiting the legislative offices of their representatives. During the Hill visits, participants spoke with members of Congress and their staffs about the importance of preventing harmful cuts to vital health programs, particularly Medicare and Medicaid. They also asked lawmakers to move forward with comprehensive immigration reform, and to ensure that all immigrants have access to affordable health care coverage.
