Daughters of Charity Health System aligns South Bay hospitals, urgent care in California

August 1, 2013

The Daughters of Charity Health System of Los Altos Hills, Calif., has created a new Santa Clara County market, with a strategy to align its hospitals and urgent care center located in the south San Francisco Bay area.

James Dover, president and chief executive of DCHS' O'Connor Hospital in San Jose, Calif., will remain in that role but take on additional responsibilities in his new post as market leader, including serving as president and chief executive of Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy, Calif., said system spokeswoman Patricia Smith. He'll look at ways to improve care integration across facilities and make the hospitals and urgent care center more efficient and effective to improve care outcomes. Specifics aren't yet available as the work is just starting, she explained.

Dover began work in early June to align the 358-bed O'Connor, the 93-bed Saint Louise and DePaul Urgent Care Center in Morgan Hill, Calif. The DePaul Urgent Care Center opened in 2009 as a satellite facility to Saint Louise for nonemergency care during business hours, after hours and on weekends, Smith said.

Dover will consult with the DCHS board as well as with physicians, associates and community members in the Santa Clara County market to gather input as the system focuses on population health and creates a network of integrated care in the region, the system said in a statement. DCHS President and Chief Executive Robert Issai said closer collaboration between the health ministries will "align operations to facilitate care coordination and transitions across care sites" and contribute to patient satisfaction and the best possible health outcomes.

Joanne Allen, former president and chief executive of Saint Louise Regional Hospital, has become the president and chief executive of Seton Medical Center in Daly City, Calif. Carol Fergurson, the interim chief administrative officer of Saint Louise Regional Hospital, will report to Dover, Smith said.
