Sr. Angelita Myerscough, ASC, died July 18 from a stroke at age 92. She had been an Adorer of the Blood of Christ sister for 76 years, according to information from her order.
Sr. Myerscough began her ministry as a teacher. In 1956, when Sr. Myerscough was returning home after studying in Italy, she was among the passengers who survived the shipwreck of the SS Andrea Doria, which sank in the North Atlantic.
Sr. Myerscough earned a doctorate in theology from Catholic University in 1962. She taught in the theology department at Saint Louis University and at its Ruma, Ill., extension, and she developed course work on the theology of religious life. She was executive secretary of the St. Louis Theological Consortium. She served as provincial of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ of Red Bud, Ill., from 1965 to 1972 and on its general council from 1975 to 1987. She helped her order to navigate many changes, including a reworking of the order's constitution and the expansion of its mission work around the world. She was president of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious in 1971.
From 1988 to 1995, Sr. Myerscough was vice president for mission effectiveness for ASC Health Services, which at one time operated three hospitals in Southern Illinois.
