Trinity to acquire long-term care facility in Clinton, Iowa

February 15, 2013

On March 1, Trinity Senior Living Communities of Livonia, Mich., will acquire The Alverno Health Care Facility, a 132-bed long-term care provider in Clinton, Iowa. The organizations would not disclose the purchase price.

The Catholic facility provides skilled nursing care and rehabilitation for people who are frail and ill or have been transferred from a hospital for post-acute medical care or rehabilitation.

The facility's current owner is a nonprofit organization called the Alverno — it is governed by a community board of directors that will dissolve upon the completion of the change in ownership.

The Sisters of St. Francis of Clinton founded and sponsor the facility. Once they transfer sponsorship to Trinity, some sisters will continue to work or volunteer at the Alverno, and some will serve on an advisory board that will help ensure the sisters' Franciscan heritage, culture and mission will continue at the facility.

Sr. Anne Martin Phelan, OSF, is president of the Clinton Franciscan sisters and chair of the Alverno board. She said transferring ownership of the facility to Trinity allows the sisters' ministry to continue securely in the future.

Joining Trinity will enable the Alverno to implement an electronic medical record system that will lead to better communication among care providers, she said.

The Trinity senior organization is part of Livonia-based Trinity Health.
