Centura Health to build $177 million campus in Denver suburbs

January 15, 2013

In the spring, Englewood, Colo.-based Centura Health plans to begin construction on a $177 million expansion to its Westminster, Colo., campus. The addition will open in early 2015.

Funded by Centura's cosponsor Catholic Health Initiatives, the campus will include 92 inpatient beds, a women's center offering maternity services, an ambulatory surgery center, a diagnostics area and physicians' offices. The campus already includes a $26 million medical pavilion that opened in the fall with an emergency department, imaging center, laboratory and physician's offices.

The yet-to-be-named addition will use what Centura administrators call a health neighborhood approach, in which a wide variety of health care services — including primary care, specialty services, urgent care, acute care, diagnostic services and occupational health care — are located in one place. The model is grounded in the patient medical home concept, with the focus on care coordination, wellness and prevention, said a Centura spokesman.

According to Centura leaders, the health neighborhood approach "can deliver better care, better service, (and) better convenience, while also controlling costs." Centura plans to use the health neighborhood in Westminster as a prototype for other Colorado communities.

Westminster is located in Denver's northwestern suburbs.
