The Baptist Hospital Foundation of Nashville, Tenn., plans to use a $5 million gift it received from a foundation to expand wound care services, including by building a new wound care center at the hospital.

The gift from the Deborah and C. A. Craig, II Family Foundation will enable the hospital to replace its existing wound care unit with the stand-alone Craig Center for Advanced Wound Healing on the hospital's campus.

The center will have an expanded focus on wound prevention through screenings, diagnostics and education.

C. A. "Neil" Craig was the second president of the Saint Thomas Hospital Foundation, which supports Baptist's regional parent, Nashville's Saint Thomas Health. During an illness prior to his June 2009 death, Craig benefited from care he received in Baptist's wound care unit. Deborah Craig said the gift is an expression of gratitude for her husband's care that recognizes there is "an opportunity to further enhance the experience at Baptist Hospital, while changing and rebuilding the lives of other patients who receive wound care."
