Remembering health care leader Sr. Diana Bader, OP

A Catholic health care leader and educator, Sr. Diana Bader, OP, died on May 10 at Assumption Convent in Seattle. She was 83.

Bader is remembered as an ethicist and mission leader. She was CHA's senior associate in clinical ethics from 1986 to 1991.

Her service to the ministry as a CHA staff member was bookended by positions with Providence Health & Services; she held roles with Providence Health Care Corp. and then Providence Health System in Seattle. For several years in the 1990s, she served as vice president of mission leadership.

She was Catholic Health Initiatives' senior vice president of mission in Denver from 1997 to 2004.

Sr. Bader, who was born Gloria Bernadine Bader, earned a doctorate in theology from Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, Ind. Her congregation said she had years of experience working in education at the high school and college levels, as well as in adult faith formation.

She was a Dominican Sister of Edmonds, Wash.; that congregation later merged with the Adrian Dominican Congregation in Adrian, Mich. Her funeral was on May 16 with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Seattle.
