A donation from a Burbank, Calif., family will help to equip a neuroscience institute opening in the spring at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank.
The $1 million gift from the Cusumano family will go toward equipping a suite with an X-ray system that provides sharp, three-dimension images for neurovascular procedures. The technology will allow clinicians to perform complex surgical procedures on patients with strokes, aneurysms and other brain and spine injuries. Providence Saint Joseph will name the suite for the Cusumanos. The family runs a commercial real estate investment company in Southern California.
Family member Michael Cusumano said this is the largest single donation the family has made. He said Providence Saint Joseph "has been so near to our hearts for so many years." Family matriarch, the late Anita Cusumano Strom, volunteered at the medical center for decades, he said.
The Cusumano Neurodiagnostic Center will be located at the Hycy and Howard Hill Neuroscience Institute, a soon-to-open facility that will treat stroke, movement disorders, tumors and other neurological conditions.
