Bernita McTernan to retire as mission leader at San Francisco's Dignity Health

Bernita McTernan will retire in the fall as Dignity Health executive vice president of sponsorship, mission integration and philanthropy. She has served the San Francisco-based system for more than 34 years.

McTernan heads Dignity Health's community health, community benefit, community initiatives, ethics, spiritual care and philanthropy efforts. She also interfaces with the religious communities that co-sponsor Dignity Health's Catholic facilities, with local bishops, with other ministry systems and with professional organizations.

In addition to working in the system office, McTernan previously was in a mission services role at Dignity Health's regional health care ministry in Sacramento and in a philanthropic fundraising role with Dignity's St. Mary's Medical Center in San Francisco.

She has served on several CHA committees, including the Health Progress Editorial Advisory Committee and the association's Ministry Leadership Formation Advisory Committee. She has been on, or is currently on, the boards of the Alliance of Catholic Health Care, Amnesty International and the Christian Social Justice Group Network, among others.
