GRANTS & GIFTS
The Albert Lepage Foundation plans to donate $10 million to St. Mary's Health System in Lewiston, Maine, to establish the Albert Lepage Center for Patient Experience at the system's hospital. The center will focus on implementing best practices and funding pilot projects to improve the effectiveness of the health care delivery system. The now-retired Lepage was a top executive of Lepage Bakeries and then a chairman of Flowers Foods, Lepage Bakeries' successor after a merger. Most recently, he was chair of Quality Bakers of America Cooperative, a licensor of Sunbeam Bread.

Saint Agnes Medical Center of Fresno, Calif., has received a $1 million gift from retired Fresno-area businessman Dick Powell. Powell received treatment at Saint Agnes for pneumonia and a cardiac condition. To thank the hospital's clinicians for saving his life, he established the Richard M. Powell Educational Endowment. The endowment will fund continuing medical education and training for clinicians through conferences, seminars, symposiums or speaker honorariums. The funds also will support the newly established Saint Agnes Internal Medicine Residency program.
