PRESIDENTS/CEOS

Susan Boland to president at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints, Racine, Wis., from senior vice president and chief operating officer, Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints. She will replace Ken Buser when he retires in February.

Tom Gessel to president and chief executive of Mercy Regional Medical Center, Durango, Colo., from president, JG Healthcare Solutions, Louisville, Ky. Gessel replaces Kirk Dignum, who now will work part-time for Mercy's parent Centura Health of Englewood, Colo.

Ed Goldberg will resign Nov. 2 as president and chief executive of St. Alexius Medical Center, Hoffman Estates, Ill. His replacement has not been named.

Dr. Joseph Pepe to president and chief executive at Catholic Medical Center and Catholic Medical Center Healthcare System, Manchester, N.H., from interim president and chief executive.

Mark W. Reifsteck to interim president and chief executive, St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham, Ill. He is president and chief executive of the Hospital Sisters Health System Southern Illinois Division, a position he will continue to hold. Reifsteck replaces Dan Woods, who resigned.

Ed Smith to president and chief executive of St. Anthony Regional Hospital and Nursing Home in Carroll, Iowa, from interim chief executive. He succeeded Gary Riedmann, who retired earlier this year.

Dr. Dean Didech to chief medical officer at Daughters of Charity Health System Medical Foundation, Los Altos Hills, Calif.

Dr. Zouheir Elias to chief of staff at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, Northridge, Calif.

Rhonda Foster to chief nursing officer, St. Joseph Health of Sonoma County, Santa Rosa, Calif.

Jack Hill to site administrator and chief operating officer, the Jewish Hospital – Mercy Health, Cincinnati.

Dr. Humayun Khan to chief medical officer of Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire, Wis., and St. Joseph's Hospital, Chippewa Falls, Wis.

Evan Ray to president and chief operating officer of rural hospital operations at St. Vincent's Health System, Birmingham, Ala.

Carol Reeder to chief nursing officer, St. Joseph Hospital, Eureka, Calif.

GRANTS AND GIFTS

Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has received a $1.5 million grant from the Hall-Perrine Foundation to purchase radiation technology for the cancer center.

St. Francis Medical Center, Lynwood, Calif., has received $500,000 from the California Community Foundation to work with St. John's Well Child and Family Center in coordinating care for the medically underserved, particularly perinatal care.

Schervier Nursing Care Center, Riverdale, N.Y., has received a $103,000 grant from the Fan Fox & Leslie R. Samuels Foundation to launch a transitional care program for palliative care patients transitioning from the hospital to another facility.

Saint Thomas Health of Nashville, Tenn., has received a $73,000 grant from the Baptist Healing Trust. The funds will be used to support behavioral health at Saint Thomas health centers.

HONORS

Sr. Mary Jean Ryan, FSM, chairperson of the board of St. Louis-based SSM Health Care, has been elected to serve as board chair of the International Academy for Quality for 2012-2014.

Dr. David Barbe, regional division president, Mercy Clinic Springfield Communities, Springfield, Mo., has been selected as the American Medical Association's board chair-elect.
