CHA's Hamel promoted to senior ethicist

CHA has promoted Ron Hamel to senior ethicist, from senior director of ethics.

During his 15-year tenure at the association, Hamel has consulted and spoken on ethical and bioethical topics in the U.S. and abroad. He has authored more than 50 articles, 25 columns and 10 reviews and edited several books on ethics, including Introduction to Christian Ethics: A Reader; A Matter of Principles? Ferment in U.S. Bioethics; Must We Suffer Our Way to Death? Cultural and Theological Perspectives on Death by Choice; Three Levels of Managed Care; Making Health Care Decisions: A Catholic Guide and Artificial Nutrition and Hydration and the Permanently Unconscious Patient: The Catholic Debate.

Prior to joining CHA, Hamel directed the department of clinical ethics at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Ill. Before that, he was senior associate for theology, ethics and clinical practice at Park Ridge Center for the Study of Health, Faith and Ethics in Chicago. Previously, he served as associate professor of Christian ethics for the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minn.
