Trinity Health's Saint Joseph Mercy Health System has completed the sale of St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron in Port Huron, Mich., to Prime Healthcare Services. The 144-bed hospital has been renamed Lake Huron Medical Center and converted to a for-profit entity.
Also included in the sale are the following:
- Mercy Health Center in Fort Gratiot, an outpatient surgery facility renamed Lake Huron Medical Center North
- Three Mercy outpatient therapy facilities, rebranded as Lake Huron Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Services
- Mercy Physician Partners offices, renamed Lake Huron Medical Group
- Lakeshore Surgery Center
- Advanced MRI
- Prime has promised to make $20 million in capital improvements over the next three years. It also agreed not to sell the hospital for at least five years. Prime will contribute at least $150,000 a year to the People's Clinic for Better Health through a foundation that will be operated and managed locally, according to a press release from Prime. The hospital also will keep an independent medical staff and local governing board.
The hospital was founded in 1954 by the Religious Sisters of Mercy. Saint Joseph Mercy continues to operate five hospitals, all in Michigan. Trinity has 85 hospitals in 21 states.
