Mercy health system of Chesterfield, Mo., has acquired a Guthrie, Okla., critical access hospital and four clinics. The deal was completed Oct. 1.
Mercy bought the 25-bed Logan Medical Center and its clinics in Guthrie, Crescent and Edmond, Okla., from the Logan County, Okla., County Commissioners for $7.2 million. The facility now is called Mercy Hospital Logan County.
With the change in ownership, Logan's eight physicians will join the Mercy Clinic multispecialty group.
When the transaction closed, Logan became Catholic and now follows the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.
The commissioners put the hospital and clinics up for sale because they "sought the expertise, resources and long-term stability of a large health care organization," explained David Tew, chief operating officer for Mercy in Oklahoma.
Mercy is working with Logan leaders to determine whether staffing and services will change.
Tew said the acquisition is consistent with Mercy's history of responding to communities "when invited or when asked to meet health care needs."
Mercy already operated health care facilities in Oklahoma's Ardmore, El Reno, Healdton, Oklahoma City and Tishomingo.
