Chicago-based Presence Health has tapped Michael Englehart to be the system's president and chief executive, beginning Oct. 1. He has about 20 years of health care experience, including a decade with the Downers Grove, Ill.-based Advocate Health Care system. He most recently served as president of Advocate Physician Partners, which coordinates the care management and managed care contracting for the Advocate Health Care system and 4,900 physicians on the medical staffs of Advocate hospitals.
Presence Health, the largest Catholic health care system in Illinois with 150 sites of care including 11 hospitals, said Englehart has experience developing transformational strategies, establishing clinical alliances and strategic partnerships, and encouraging collaboration for integrated models of care.
Sandra Bruce, Presence Health's founding president and chief executive, announced her intention in March to retire from her position by the end of the year. As president and chief executive of Resurrection Health Care, Bruce led the November 2011 merger with Provena Health that created Presence Health.
Bruce said through a system spokesperson that in retirement she may pursue work to build and improve hospitals abroad. She is considering work with Global Health Services Network, a Michigan-based firm that helps health care organizations around the world, and separately may assist The Catholic University of America with opening a hospital in Beirut later this year.
