A 32-year employee of Mercy Medical Center in Springfield, Mass., has won the largest single ticket lottery jackpot in U.S. history. Having won $758.7 million in the Aug. 23 Powerball drawing, Mavis Wanczyk, 53, resigned her clerical job at Mercy Aug. 24, a Mercy spokeswoman said. As Catholic Health World went to press, she was reportedly planning her first steps in early retirement.
