Longmont, Colo., hospital affiliates with Centura Health

September 15, 2015

Longmont United Hospital of Longmont, Colo., has affiliated with Centura Health of Englewood, Colo., a hospital network jointly sponsored by Catholic Health Initiatives and Adventist Health System.

The 201-bed Longmont United will remain a nonprofit, self-owned community hospital. The hospital's local board will remain intact — with representation from Centura Health added — and that board will share fiduciary responsibility for the hospital with Centura Health. The hospital's name will not change, nor will it become a Catholic facility.

Longmont United's board sought out the affiliation after determining that the stand-alone hospital should partner with another organization that could provide the scale, capital and resources necessary to thrive under health care reform.

According to a press release on the hospital's affiliation with Centura, Longmont United approached Centura and four other Colorado-based health systems about a potential partnership. It selected Centura based on the strength of that system's sponsors, the system's commitment to physician integration, the breadth of its presence in Colorado and its long-term commitment to providing population health management services, among other benefits, according to the release.

Centura manages 16 hospitals and a network of other facilities in Colorado and Kansas.
