Laudato Si' Action Platform

Fall 2021
LaudatoSi' Globe Fall_2021

This November 14, Catholics from around the world can make a public commitment to act on the urgent issues facing the environment. This commitment can be made through the Laudato Si’ Action Platform, which debuted in May with Pope Francis inviting all Catholics on a journey “to create the future we want: a more inclusive, fraternal, peaceful and sustainable world.”

The Laudato Si’ Action Platform was announced in May 2020 by the Vatican’s Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development as part of the Laudato Si’ Special Anniversary Year. The goals of the action platform reflect the encyclical’s recognition that long-term solutions to the climate crisis need to address the environmental, economic, political, social, cultural and ethical issues that drive overconsumption, wastefulness and pursuit of profits without regard to human or environmental costs.

The seven goals of the action platform are:

  • Response to the Cry of the Earth
  • Response to the Cry of the Poor
  • Ecological Economics
  • Adoption of Sustainable Lifestyles
  • Ecological Education
  • Ecological Spirituality
  • Community Involvement and Participatory Action

The platform will provide customized planning guides, resources and community support to help seven target sectors achieve action platform goals over seven years: families; parishes and dioceses; schools and universities; hospitals and health care centers; businesses and farms; lay movements and organizations; and religious congregations. Pope Francis has said he hopes “we can all collaborate, each with their own culture and experience, each with their own initiatives and abilities, so that our mother Earth returns to its original beauty and creation again shines according to God’s plan.”
