International Outreach Regional Meeting — Marriottsville

Please join leaders involved in international outreach for a one-day meeting sponsored by the Catholic Health Association of the United States (CHA) and Bon Secours Health System. This meeting is an opportunity for CHA members and partner organization leaders from the Maryland and Virginia region to collectively discuss their activities, practices, cautionary information and potential for collaboration related to international activities. This event will also facilitate raised awareness about CHA research in and resources/tools for appropriate short-term medical mission trips, medical surplus donations, as well as overall international outreach activities including disaster response.

Please make plans today to attend this invitational, in-person gathering. It is being offered at no cost to those persons currently supporting international initiatives as well as relevant colleagues from sponsoring congregations, higher education, finance, governance, clinical operations and others who are champions of this work.

Objectives

After attending this meeting, participants will be able to:

  • Describe activities included under the umbrella of international outreach: disaster response, medical teams, immersion, surplus recovery, volunteers and some "gold standard" practices for each.
  • Restate CHA research conducted on short-term medical mission trips and medical surplus recovery and resulting resources on assessment and practices for systems and hospitals.
  • Recognize the International efforts of Cincinnati regionally-based Catholic health care institutions.
  • Continue to network with leaders from non-governmental organizations (NGO), health care leaders, CRS and more who attend.

Who Should Attend?

Catholic health care leaders, sponsors, trustees, NGO leaders, MSRO representatives, community partners, including, but not limited to:

  • International outreach leaders 
  • Executives
  • Trustees
  • Religious community members
  • Mission leaders
  • Materials managers
  • Green team members
  • Clinical staff who collect surplus supplies or participate in medical mission trips/activities
  • International outreach champions — those who want to be involved in this work, but might need more information/those starting or already taking part in an international experience
  • Medical Surplus Recovery Organization leaders
  • Leaders of diocesan or other medical mission trips
  • University faculty and staff responsible for or working with international activities
  • NGO leaders – especially those who work with short-term medical mission trip volunteers

Certificate of Attendance

Please note: CHA does not offer Continuing Education Units (CEU) for any programs. Participants will receive an email with information on how to acquire a Certificate of Attendance following the program (typically included in the program evaluation email). Certificates of Attendance may be submitted to relevant organizations that accept proof of contact hours as credit. These include:

American College of Healthcare Executives: American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) members may self-report qualifying CEUs using the contact hour information provided on their CHA Certificate of Attendance. To self-report, log in as a member on the ACHE site; use the link on the left-hand side to self-report applicable contact hours for CEU credit.

NACC Board Certified Chaplains: National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC) board certified chaplain members may self-report their continuing education hours (CEH's) using the contact hours information provided on their CHA Certificate of Attendance.
