Catholic Health Association Installs Chairperson, Elects Vice Chairperson and Trustees

PHILADELPHIA (June 5, 2012)Joseph R. Swedish, president and chief executive officer, Trinity Health, Novi, Mich., has been installed as chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Catholic Health Association of the United States (CHA) for fiscal year 2012-13.

Swedish succeeded Robert V. Stanek, retired president and CEO, Catholic Health East, Newtown Square, Pa., who became 2012-13 speaker of CHA's Membership Assembly.

In an election held during the 2012 Catholic Health Assembly in Philadelphia, June 3-5, Deborah A. Proctor, president and chief executive officer, St. Joseph Health, Orange, Calif., was chosen vice chairperson/chairperson-elect for fiscal year 2012-13. She will lead the CHA board in fiscal year 2013-14.

Elected to three-year terms on the board were:

  • Joyce C. Dombrouski, MHA, RN, CENP, chief acute services officer, St. Patrick Hospital and Health Services Center; chief nursing officer, Western Montana Region, Providence Health & Services, Missoula, Mont. (Second Term)
  • Sr. Teresa A. Maltby, RSM, D.Mn., corporate member/board member, Presence Health; chairperson, Health Ministry Council, West Midwest Community of Sisters of Mercy, Chicago, Ill. (Second Term)
  • Brian O'Toole, PH.D., senior vice president, mission and ethics, Mercy, Chesterfield, Mo. (Second Term)

CHA's board consists of 22 trustees, including Sr. Carol Keehan, DC, CHA president and chief executive officer. In addition, Rhonda E. Mueller, CHA's senior vice president, finance and operations, serves as Corporate Treasurer, and Lisa J. Gilden, JD, CHA's vice president and general counsel, serves as Corporate Secretary.

The board's role includes developing CHA's strategic direction, ensuring CHA's fidelity to its mission, stewarding CHA's resources and performing other governance activities to support and strengthen the Catholic health ministry in the United States.
