Statement by Sister Carol Keehan, DC, President & Chief Executive Officer Catholic Health Association of the United States (CHA)

Oct. 16, 2017 — Congress Needs to Act Quickly Given the Disappointing Actions of the Administration The Administration’s actions to cut off critical cost sharing payments, which assist low- and middle-income families in affording the co-pays and deductibles of private insurance, has jeopardized health insurance coverage for millions of Americans. The decision is devastating for working families struggling to make ends meet.

The Catholic Health Association of the United States is calling on all Members of Congress—following the lead of Chairman Lamar Alexander and Senator Patty Murray—to act quickly to ensure the availability and affordability of health insurance coverage for individuals and families. Recent actions by the Administration will further undermine our health care system, likely increasing hospital uncompensated care costs and causing ripple effects across the country.

It is more urgent than ever for Congress to work quickly on a bipartisan solution on behalf of the American people.
