Dear Colleague,
During these holy days, we are invited in a special way to reflect on the suffering, death and Resurrection of Jesus. As we journey together, we contemplate God's profound love for each of us and find hope in the promise of Resurrection in our own lives. Let us also recall the story of the Road to Emmaus, where Jesus walked alongside two disciples, unrecognized until he revealed himself in the breaking of the bread. Like the disciples, may we recognize Jesus in our midst, especially as we accompany the patients and families we serve in our ministry.
In Creation and the Cross: The Mercy of God for a Planet in Peril, Elizabeth Johnson, CSJ, offers that "To those who believe, the call from the depths of their relationship with God is to bend every effort to stand with God in solidarity with those who suffer; to right the wrongs, counter injustice, relieve the pain, and create situations where life can flourish."
Your service to the Catholic health ministry stands as an enduring sign of Jesus’ mission of love and healing in the world today. May we always be mindful of opportunities, both large and small, to elevate human flourishing in the lives of those we serve and those we serve alongside.
May you find joy in our shared mission, that your 'Alleluia!' may permeate all you say and do.
In gratitude,
Sr. Mary Haddad, RSM
