About this webinar
For years Catholic health care has been a leader in palliative care, recognizing the importance of the relief of suffering as core to their mission. Because of the complex needs of people with serious illness, their encounters with a fragmented health care delivery system can be stressful and traumatic and their care is often poorly managed. Studies show that early access to palliative care for seriously ill patients improves their quality of life and improves quality measures and resource utilization. This is achieved through comprehensive care planning, effective pain and symptom control, and highly coordinated care that addresses physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs.
This webinar will discuss how palliative care programs can be part of health care organizations' approach to balancing today's unprecedented financial and workforce challenges with the need to deliver high-quality, value-based care. More specifically, the webinar will present the value proposition of palliative care, national guidelines, criteria and standards of quality for palliative care programs and how to make the mission and business case for palliative care to organizational leadership.
At the end of the webinar, participants will be able to:
- Identify one to two measurable value impacts/benefits that palliative care provides for the patient and/or health care organization's quality and financial outcomes.
- Identify one to two palliative care guideline standards that provide criteria for a quality palliative care program.
